Images in Wood
The Wooden Image is the application of art and technology. Starting with an ordinary photograph you provide in digital or print form, it is cropped, and any necessary image processing is done such as toning down specular highlights. It is then converted to a 3d mesh by software that I custom wrote to satisfy my ideal of what a “bas relief” from a photo should look like. There are others out there that use expensive commercial software that rely on the contrast between dark and light areas as a substitute for true depth relief to achieve a facsimile of the image. The carvings produced at The Wooden Image are true reliefs and can be felt and seen before any wood stains or sealers are applied. Hand-mixed stains and sealers are applied to further enhance your relief so that it can stand the test of time and be enjoyed as a personal image or as ornamental decor.
